Zabbix Integration

The ZABBIX monitoring system is an open‑source software for monitoring IT infrastructures. ZABBIX is suitable for companies and public authorities (öA) of any size. ZABBIX was developed in 2001 by Alexei Vladishev. In 2005, Alexei founded the company ZABBIX SIA, based in Riga, Latvia.

The open‑source enterprise monitoring solution ZABBIX enjoys great popularity and is used, among other companies, by large telecommunications providers.

Outstanding features include, among others:

  • Collecting information by using agents (Zabbix Agent, SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3, Trap PDU, IPMI)
  • Monitoring of virtual machines, web scripts, Java applications, databases, etc.
  • Performance monitoring.
  • IT incident management / fault management.
  • Data visualization via a powerful web interface including individually customizable panels, plans, and object maps.
  • Graphs and reports based on data and metrics, with flexible display of events and notifications.
  • Messages (email, SMS, Jabber, etc.) with extensive macro support, automatic execution of commands to monitor objects, and a flexible system for acknowledging critical state changes and events.
  • Distributed monitoring with the possibility of grouping and hierarchical control.
  • Support of templates and flexible import / export of configurations for nodes, maps, and displays.
  • Automatic discovery scenarios.
  • Customer‑specific support for maintenance plans, inventory and hardware scripts to monitor also industrial infrastructures.
  • APIs for interaction with third‑party application systems.

The manufacturer Didactum provides a free template for Zabbix for connecting its IT monitoring systems and IP sensors.

This template can be downloaded here at no charge.

This allows the remote monitoring appliances and sensors from Didactum to be seamlessly integrated into this enterprise monitoring software. In the context of environmental monitoring, Zabbix provides important physical environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, or air cooling.

Critical events, such as those caused by a cable fire or water damage from the air conditioning, are reported by SNMP‑compatible sensors to Zabbix. The measured physical environmental parameters form the basis for reports and forecasts. In addition to measuring important environmental parameters, the sensors also deliver data on power monitoring. Security sensors additionally enable the physical security monitoring of mission‑critical (IT) infrastructures.

Within incident management, important status messages (unauthorized access, unauthorized access to an IT rack, etc.) are transmitted.
