Setting up dynamic DNS
You want to set up remote access to your Didactum remote monitoring device but do not have a static IP address? Then simply configure a dynamic DNS (DDNS). Dynamic DNS is used to assign a permanent domain name to a device.
Example for configuring a dynamic DNS service in the IT monitoring system
As an example, we use the DNS service from No‑IP.com.
Please proceed as follows:
- If you are not yet registered with no‑ip.com, create an account at https://www.noip.com/.
- Create a host on no‑ip.com: choose “Add a Host”.
Set the parameters as follows: Hostname – your chosen host name; Type: DNS Host (A); IP address – leave this field unchanged, as it is updated automatically by the IT monitoring system. - Log in to the web interface of the IT monitoring system and go to the “System settings” menu.
In the “DynDNS” tab, enable “Enable DynDNS”. In the “DNS Service” field, select the No‑IP service. Enter the login, password, and hostname you previously set up with no‑ip.com, then click “Save” to activate the DynDNS settings.
Important: To permanently save the device configuration of the IT monitoring system, click the diskette icon in the top‑right corner. - After about 1 minute, your IT monitoring device will automatically update the IP address for the hostname. You can verify this in your no‑ip.com account. The service should now display the correct IP address and hostname.
- Enter the hostname in your web browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) and the web interface of your IT monitoring system will open.
If the hostname does not work, try using the original IP address with which the IT monitoring system registered for the hostname.
If the IP address also fails to work, it may be that port 80 is not open or that a firewall is blocking the communication. In this case, please contact your IT administrator.
