Installation instructions for door contact sensor
The door contact sensor is a magnetic switching contact for reporting the opening and closing of doors and windows.
Monitor important doors and windows with this IP-enabled door contact sensor in:
- Production and manufacturing environments
- Warehouse and logistics infrastructures
- Power supply and backup systems
- Telecommunications, IT, and server rooms
- Depots and archives
The magnetic contact sensor from Didactum is manufactured within the EU. The following components are included in the scope of delivery:
- 1 x labeled sensor unit with 2 x RJ11/RJ12 connectors
- 1 x labeled magnetic contact unit
- 1 x mounting bracket, 2 x Phillips head screws, 2 x M5 screws with nuts, 1 x double-sided adhesive tape
- 1 x 2-meter RJ11/RJ12 sensor cable
Mounting the door contact sensor on the door or window
The door contact sensor unit is mounted on the door or window frame. This unit can be mounted vertically or horizontally. The door contact sensor can be attached using the mounting bracket, a Phillips head screw, or the double-sided adhesive tape.
If using the double-sided adhesive tape, the surface should first be thoroughly cleaned with glass cleaner. Then, mount the labeled magnetic contact unit parallel to the sensor unit on the door or window. Secure it using one of the two Phillips head screws or the double-sided adhesive tape.
Connecting the door contact to the IP-based monitoring device
After attaching the door contact sensor to the door/window, plug the RJ11 connector of the included sensor cable into one of the two sensor ports on the sensor unit. Simply connect the other RJ11 connector of the sensor cable to a free sensor port on your Didactum Monitoring System 50 / 100 III / 400 / 500 / 600 / 700. Thanks to the innovative Auto Sensing function, the door contact is automatically detected by the IP-based monitoring device and displayed in the German-language web interface under the menu item "System Tree".
*Note from the technical editors: The maximum length of the RJ11/RJ12 sensor cable for the door contact sensor can be up to 150 meters.
Alternatively, you can order a suitable sensor cable here in the online shop for building monitoring technology.
Connect multiple door contacts in series
If you need multiple door contacts to monitor your doors and windows, you can easily connect them in series. Simply connect the first door contact sensor to the free port of the second door contact sensor using an RJ11/RJ12 patch cable, and so on. This only uses a single sensor port on your IP-based monitoring device.
Technical Note:
If multiple door contact sensors are connected in series using a daisy chain, you will receive a general alarm (window open/closed). If you want to monitor the status of each door or window contact individually (e.g., server cabinet door 1 open/closed), each door contact sensor must be connected individually to the IP-based monitoring system!
Set the normal state of the door contact (door contact open or closed).
The SNMP OID of the sensor (102001) is displayed under ID.
After you have made the desired settings, simply click "Apply".
Configuration of the door contact sensor in the monitoring device
In the multilingual web interface of the IP-based monitoring device, you can individually name the door contact sensor (example: door contact server cabinet 1, etc.).
In this rule, we specify that if (IF) the "Server Cabinet 1 Door Contact" reports an "Alarm," then (THEN) a notification must be sent via "Microsoft Exchange."
We then name this rule "Alarm Opening Server Cabinet 1" and click "Apply."
The created rule is permanently saved in the Ethernet-based monitoring device by clicking the floppy disk icon (upper right corner).
Immediate notification when the door contact sensor is triggered
After configuring the door contact sensor, we define the rule "Alarm when server cabinet 1 is opened" under "logical scheme". Sending email notifications via the Microsoft Exchange Server was previously configured and successfully tested under "system tree".
Alternatively, the monitoring device can also send alarm messages via SNMP or SMS (via GSM modem or web-to-SMS server).
Tamper protection for the door contact sensor
[All Ethernet-based monitoring devices from the manufacturer Didactum offer, among other things, tamper protection functions. If the sensor cable of the door contact sensor is disconnected or cut, you can be proactively notified and alerted.
