Timer function for the PIR motion detector

In this example, we'll show you how to set up a schedule/timer function in your Didactum smart monitoring system. The passive infrared sensor installed in the server room must report any presence or movement between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM on weekdays (Mon-Fri). On weekends, the PIR motion detector must be armed 24 hours a day and report any movement in the server room to the responsible IT administrator via SMS.

The following IT security products were installed in the server room:

  • Didactum Smart Monitoring System 100 including internal GSM modem
  • PIR motion detector

Creating a timer in Schedule mode

First, in the web interface, navigate to the system tree of the smart IT monitoring system and click the "+" symbol in the upper right corner. In the "Add a new element" window, select the "Timer" function. Use your mouse to mark the desired times.

  • Mon. 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Tue. 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Wed. 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Thu. 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Fri. 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Set up SMS alarm

Next, we create an SMS alert in the system tree for when the motion detector is triggered. To do this, click the "+" symbol in the system tree again and then click on SMS. Enter the desired mobile phone number and define the desired content of the SMS alert under "Message Text".

Set alarm rule for the motion detector

Next, we create a new alarm rule under "Logic Scheme". We name this rule "Motion Detector Alert Server Room" and save it. Please also click on the floppy disk icon (top right) to permanently save the rule in the smart monitoring system!
