Instructions for IP temperature sensor for temperature measurement
The temperature sensor is used for continuous measurement and monitoring of the ambient temperature in critical rooms and facilities. The sensor is compatible with all IP-based measurement and monitoring systems from the manufacturer Didactum. It supports a measuring range of -40° to +100° Celsius.
Choosing a suitable mounting location
When choosing a suitable mounting location for the temperature sensor, please note the following points:
- The mounting location should be as free of dust and dirt as possible.
- The humidity at the installation location must not exceed 95% relative humidity (non-condensing). For wet or humid environments, we offer waterproof sensors for measuring ambient temperature.
- Heat should not accumulate at the mounting location.
The maximum cable length between the temperature sensor and the measurement and monitoring system must not exceed 100 meters. If the sensor needs to be located further away, please use the expansion unit for intelligent sensors.
This expansion unit is connected to the CAN bus port of the main unit. The maximum cable length between the main unit and the expansion unit can be up to 225 meters. You can then connect a temperature sensor with a maximum cable length of 100 meters to the expansion unit. Note: The Monitoring System 50 is not equipped with a CAN port.
Mounting the temperature sensor
Mount the temperature sensor using the included double-sided mounting tape. Alternatively, you can use the screw for mounting. Then connect the sensor to the included RJ11 patch cable. This 2-meter patch cable has connectors at both ends.
Plug one connector into the temperature sensor and the other connector into a free sensor port on your IP-based measurement and monitoring device. With the auto-identification function, the temperature sensor, which is equipped with an SNMP OID, will be automatically detected by the monitoring device. Measurement and recording of the ambient temperature will then start automatically.
RJ11 patch cable extension
A 2-meter RJ11 patch cable is included. If desired, you can use an RJ11 telephone cable up to 100 meters long to extend the temperature sensor.
Set individual threshold and alarm values for the ambient temperature.
Temperature sensor configuration
In the web interface of your Ethernet-based measurement and monitoring system, you can give the temperature sensor a custom name. In our example, we have named the sensor "Temperature Sensor Warehouse Hannover".
Set up notifications, alarms, and actions for critical temperatures
In addition to email alerts to up to 5 different recipients, notifications via SMS are also supported (GSM/LTE modem or email-to-SMS gateway required). If you are using SNMP-compatible building or network management software, the critical ambient temperature can be reported as SNMP traps.
The temperature sensor is equipped with an SNMP OID, allowing the currently measured temperature to be queried via SNMP command over a TCP/IP network or the internet. In case of over-temperature, the monitoring system can automatically switch relays, enabling the temperature alarm to be sounded via connected sirens.
Calibrate sensor
The temperature sensor can be subsequently calibrated in the WebGUI of the measurement and monitoring system.
Visualization and export of temperature recordings
Select the connected temperature sensor using the "+" icon (top left of the menu) and display the temperature curve graphically.
The temperature recording can be exported from the IP data logger as a CSV, XML, or RSS file.
