Firmware and kernel update via USB stick
The firmware and Linux kernel of the LAN-based monitoring systems in the 50 / 100 III / 100 IV (DC) / 300 / 500 II (DC) series can also be updated via USB flash drive. Simply request the latest firmware from our support team using the contact form. The compressed ZIP file contains two files named "firmware.zor" and "firmware-kernel.zor" (without quotation marks).
Important notes from the technical team: Unlike firmware updates using a CPU tool, USB updates require the firmware and kernel updates to be loaded separately onto the Smart Monitoring System. This means that the firmware file named "firmware.zor" must first be copied to the root directory of the empty USB flash drive. The filename "firmware.zor" must not be changed, as the Smart Monitoring System explicitly searches for this file. Be sure to back up your device configuration and log files before the update!
Important notes from the technical team: The update process is indicated by LEDs on the front panel of the Smart Monitoring System. The "ERR LED" will start flashing. After the firmware update, all LEDs will turn off and the Smart Monitoring System will restart automatically. Be sure to remove the USB drive during the restart.
Kernel update of the hardened Linux OS via USB stick
Next, delete the "firmware.zor" file on the USB stick and copy the kernel file "firmware-kernel.zor" to the root directory. The Didactum Monitoring System will again signal this process via an LED (see above). Remove the USB stick during the restart.
Important note: Please do not intervene manually during the process (firmware update & kernel update), as otherwise the device will need to be reinstalled using the CPU tool.
After the firmware and kernel update
After the firmware and kernel update, the smart monitoring system will again have the default IP address "192.168.0.193". The username/password is "guest" / "guest". The backup file containing the device configuration, named "settings.zor", can be loaded in the web interface under => "System Menu" => "Firmware". After the reboot, the smart monitoring system will be available again as usual.
Recovery of the monitoring system
Should the smart monitoring system unexpectedly become unreachable after the firmware and kernel update, please use the following essential utilities, which you will find in the compressed file named "tools.zip".
This file contains three important utilities:
- "factory-settings.zor" – Utility for completely restoring the Smart Monitoring System to factory settings with the default IP address "192.168.0.193", default username and password "guest", and default sensor settings.
- "network-settings.zor" – Utility for restoring the factory default network settings with the IP address "192.168.0.193" and default gateway "192.168.0.1".
- "resetusers.zor" – Utility for restoring the factory default username and password "guest" (without quotation marks).
