Function and purpose

The 8x Analog Sensor Expansion Unit increases the number of analog sensors that can be connected to a Didactum monitoring unit.

Each unit provides eight additional analog sensor connections, enabling greater scalability for monitoring complex environments. Multiple units can be daisy-chained with other CAN devices or sensors via the CAN bus connection for efficient expansion. All connected sensors are automatically detected and integrated into the system. This simplifies setup and ensures seamless monitoring of critical infrastructure.

Up to 10 to 32 CAN devices can be connected in series. You can connect CAN sensors or expansion modules to a single CAN bus line.

Up to 24 expansion units for 8x analog sensors can be connected to a single CAN bus line. A CAN 12V 1A power supply is required for additional power to a CAN bus line.

Wall mounting

There are four M3 threaded holes on the bottom of the housing.

You can attach the wall brackets to these holes and then use them to mount the device on a wall or other surface.

The wall brackets must be ordered separately.

DIN rail mounting

There are two M4 threaded holes on the underside of the device. Use these to mount the DIN rail bracket. The device can then be attached to the DIN rail. The DIN rail bracket is sold separately.

1U rack mount

It is possible to mount two units in a 1U rack space using a mounting bracket. The bracket is sold separately.

1. The mounting kit consists of two parts.

2. If you need to mount the second unit on the bracket, loosen the two M3 screws.

3. Rackmount Kit - parts not yet assembled

4. Use M3 screws to attach the unit to the rackmount kit slots.

Installation

Connect the CAN input of the device to the CAN input of the previous CAN device or monitoring system using the supplied RJ11/RJ12 cable.

The red LED will illuminate. Ensure that the TR-Bus termination resistors of the connected CAN devices are compatible. The TR-Bus termination resistors (position 2 on the unit) should only be switched on at the end of the CAN bus and off (positions 1 and 2) at all intermediate devices. A maximum of 8 CAN devices, sensors, and/or other CAN devices can be connected to one CAN bus.

Normally, an external power supply (12 V, 0.5 A) is connected to the socket labeled PWR (point 2 in the wiring diagram). However, if only this one unit is connected and the cable length between the monitoring device and the unit does not exceed 10 m, the expansion unit will function without an external power supply. In all other cases, the use of an external power supply is recommended.
