Set up email notifications and alerts in the monitoring system
The notifications and alarms generated by the IP-based monitoring system are intended to inform users about important events and critical status changes.
Important note from the editors:
Alarms, notifications, and automatic actions (e.g., relay switching) are created in the individual element groups or in the logical schema of the monitoring system!
Creating email notifications and alerts
In order for the IP monitoring system to be able to send notifications and alarms via e‑mail, you must enter the following parameters:
| Parameter: | Description: | |
| Enable SSL | SSL enabled or disabled | |
| Login, password | Username and password of the SMTP server | |
| Mail from | Sender e‑mail address e.g. didactum‑test@gmail.com | |
| Mail to | E‑mail address of the recipient (e.g. didactum‑test@gmail.com) plus up to 10 additional e‑mail addresses. When using multiple e‑mail addresses, separate them with a space, “;”, or “,”. Example 1: didactum‑test@gmail.com, didactum‑test2@gmail.com Example 2: didactum‑test@gmail.com didactum‑test2@gmail.com Example 3: didactum‑test@gmail.com; didactum‑test2@gmail.com | |
| Message | Text of the notification | |
| Name | Chosen label of the element in the monitoring system (e.g. eMail Alarm) | |
| Permit STARTTLS | If STARTTLS is enabled, the encrypted connection is opened within the SMTP session typical port 587, but can also be 25, 2525, or another port | |
| SMTP port | Port of the SMTP server (e.g. 25 or 465) | |

Exemplary setup of the e‑mail alarm. For questions about the configuration of SMTP parameters, please contact your administrator or your e‑mail provider.
The message subject is automatically generated by the monitoring system and includes information about the device type (e.g. Didactum 50), the device label (determined by the field in the menu Settings → Network → Hostname), the name of the sender (defined by the field “Message from”), and the notification type (e.g. video notification).
If the device name in the field Settings → Network → Hostname is left at the default value, the device’s IP address is used instead of the name.
Example:
Didactum_50_A12 'Simple Mail' notice
Didactum_50‑192.168.0.189 'Alarm' video notification
