Required is an Ethernet-based Didactum monitoring and alarm system from the model series 50/100/400/500/700, a sensor for the water leak detection chain, and a water detection cable.
Preliminary remarks:
The water detection cable has a wide range of applications for detecting water leaks and other water leaks. In addition to server rooms and data centers, production and logistics areas can also be secured with this water detection cable.
Typically, the water detection cable is installed on the underside of 19-inch server racks and in the raised floor of the server room or data center.
The water detection cable can also be installed in ceiling and wall coverings. It can also be mounted along cooling hoses and (water) pipes. Use inexpensive cable ties to secure the detection cable.
Note:
The water detection cable should be installed as close as possible to the object being monitored!
Installation of the water sensor including the leakage cable:
1. Connect the water detection cable to the IP-rated sensor for the water leak detection chain. To do this, screw the free ends of the leakage cable to the Phoenix connector included with the sensor unit. Then simply connect the connector to the sensor. Check that the connector is properly seated.
2. Route the water detection cable along the pipes or objects to be monitored. When installing the water detection cable in the raised floor of the server room/data center, ensure that the cable sheathing is not damaged by sharp objects. The water detection cable must not be kinked. Any water detection cable damaged during installation must be replaced.
3. Connect the sensor to a free sensor port on the monitoring system. Use the RJ11/RJ12 patch cable included with the system. If desired, you can use a patch cable up to 100 meters long. The pin assignment for the RJ11 patch cable can be found here in the technology portal. The sensor is automatically detected by the monitoring system and displayed in the web interface. Here you can give the water detection cable a custom name (e.g., "Leakage Cable Raised Floor" or "Water Alarm Cable Water Pipe," etc.).
4. Configure the required actions, notifications, and alarms in the monitoring system's web interface. Instructions for setting up email and SMS alarm notifications are available here.
5. Please also use the built-in alarm map of your monitoring system. The alarm message from the water detection cable is displayed flashing on the map. The alarm map helps you quickly locate the water damage within your infrastructure.
6. Test the water detection cable with a small amount of tap water. Once the water sensor cable comes into contact with water, this event is displayed in the monitoring system's web interface. Simultaneously, the actions, notifications, and alarms configured in the monitoring system are executed. After the test, the water detection cable is dried with a clean, dry cloth. Once completely dry, the water detection cable returns to its normal state.
