Setting up an LTE modem

Didactum's web-based monitoring systems can optionally be equipped with an internal LTE modem. Use this modem to access the high-performance LTE data network and provided internet services such as VPN, SMTP or FTP.

2APNProvider's Access Point Name e.g. "internet.telekom"
3PINPIN code (if required)
4User NameUsername for provider authentication
5PasswordUser password for provider authentication
6Enable routing for internal network

·Allow devices in the internal network to use this connection as gateway for internet access

·(only 600 and 700 monitoring systems)

7Enable WatchdogUse of watchdog / ping function to check connection
8Watchdog periodPing frequency of watchdog in seconds
7Watchdog timeoutWatchdog timeout / connection considered interrupted
8IP Address or hostname of ping destinationIP address for checking LTE connection

LTE-Failover

By default, the LTE modem operates in failover mode. This means the LTE connection is automatically established if no response is received from the DNS servers specified in the "Network" settings (ICMP ping via the Ethernet interface). The LTE connection in failover mode is terminated once access to one of the DNS servers is restored via the Ethernet interface of the IP-based measurement and monitoring system. Therefore, for a normal failover to occur, the DNS server must be located outside the local network.

Permanent LTE connection

If permanent internet access is required, use the built-in OpenVPN client of your IP-based Didactum IT monitoring system. The connection to the VPN server is maintained when the connection is established via Ethernet or LTE (even if the internet connection via the Ethernet interface is interrupted). This ensures permanent access to the protected private network and the device's permanent IP address (with the appropriate VPN server settings).

Restoring LTE connection

The Didactum IT monitoring system's built-in watchdog ping function can automatically re-establish the LTE connection. The timeout should be set at least three times longer than the ping period. If no successful ping to the specified address is received during the timeout period, the connection is considered interrupted. The IT monitoring system will then automatically establish a new LTE connection via its built-in modem.

Access Point Name (APN)

If the SIM card installed in the Didactum LTE modem supports a personal APN (Access Point Name) with a static IP address, the IP thermo-hygrometer, power distribution unit (PDU), or rack monitoring system can be accessed directly via this IP address. To obtain this SIM card with an APN, simply contact your mobile network provider.

Note: You can find your LTE modem's IP address, provided it has been assigned in the LTE IP address field, in the German web interface under "System Settings" ("Preferences") => "Network".
